Custom Fly Tying with Jackie Mahon

I have been tying my own flies since a very young age and it is something that I take very seriously, from dying the materials to get that traditional Irish colour, to tying the traditional or modern patterns myself.

I love experimenting with colours for flies, and to research new materials, to hopefully make those flies even better. I love to tie flies that catch fish and I am always coming up with patterns each season with different ideas along the way. On a days guiding I always carry flies which are a mixture my own hand tyed flies, those new patterns each year, plus my signature fly range from Fulling Mill. My guide fly box is always open for my guests to make use of for the day.

On my fishing journey I have guided and tyed the winning flies for the Irish team that helped them achieve a gold medal on Lough Melvin in June 2022. I take part in a few fly fishing fairs in Ireland and Italy during the closed season. I also take part in fly tying classes for beginner youths to show the art of fly tying and how to fish these flies.

My flies have been featured in two Trout and Salmon magazine articles; Sedge patterns for Trout and Salmon Magazine's August 2019 issue and Mayflies for Trout and Salmon Magazine's May 2019 issue. I have written also written an article on fishing on Lough Arrow which is featured in Flyfishing Journal.
